About PK O'Neill

PK O’Neill has been protecting Carson City for over 40 years, serving the Nevada Department of Public Safety through his law enforcement career where he retired as a Division Chief.
Upon retirement, PK began work as a consultant with the International Association of Chiefs of Police and the FBI, developing and deploying the National Law Enforcement Data Exchange to criminal justice agencies across the country. PK has gained an exceptional ability to communicate with individuals and agencies, to gain and maintain trust between local, state and federal agencies and articulate their needs and concerns.
He has also consulted with various private companies and governmental agencies to better their business practices with regard to Information Technology applications where he identified problem areas, analyzed data and developed solutions.
With a strong desire to serve the State from a different perspective, PK was elected to the State Assembly, District 40. He was honored to serve in the 78th (2015) Session and two Special Sessions, the 29th (2015) and the 20th (2016). Unprecedented as a freshman legislator, PK was able to get all five of his sponsored bills passed and signed into law by the Governor. The Bills included enhancements for crimes against the elderly, decreasing the cost of public school construction, allowing law enforcement to use improved technology, improving registration for the draft and augmenting the Nevada State Prison (NSP) Preservation Society efforts to preserve the old NSP as a museum.
PK has continued to serve the State. He was appointed by Governor Sandoval in 2016 to the Nevada Commission on Ethics and re-appointed by Governor Sisolak in 2019.
He is passionate about protecting the great State of Nevada and our capital, Carson City. He would like to continue the work on addressing mental health challenges including substance abuse, increasing the availability of labor skills training, and improve Nevada’s business friendly position to keep our communities vibrant.
PK has been married to Nancy O’Neill for over 20 years. Nancy is a retired social worker with the Division of Child and Family Services. They are empty-nesters with four adult children and six grandchildren. Together they enjoy traveling to visit with their children, touring the country and volunteering with their Church and social organizations. PK currently serves on the Board of Trustees for Carson Tahoe Health Systems and is Chairman of the Salvation Army of Carson City & Douglas County Advisory Board.
