Assembly Republican Leader Dr. Robin Titus Releases Statement on the Budget Cuts Made by Democrats
Carson City, NV – “In a time when our state is facing its greatest economic challenge in history, Democrats, who control the governor’s mansion and have majorities in both chambers, have shown they are not willing to act in the best interest of Nevadans. Tonight, Assembly Republicans said NO to budget cuts to K-12 education, higher education, healthcare, public safety, and capital projects. This is what happens when a one-party control system creates extreme, hyper-partisan legislation that favors special interest. This budget was created, passed, and will be signed by Democrats from start to finish.
At this late date, after many hours of work, and without collaborating with Republicans, our Democrat colleagues have chosen to support unions who fill their campaign coffers over Nevada families. Democrats passed AB3 which restores funds not to our children and Nevada’s education budget, but rather to state employees whose union (AFSCME) donated $224,000 to Democrat legislators in the month immediately preceding the start of the special session.
Our private sector has been decimated; we are at record unemployment in our state; it is our responsibility as Nevadans to make the shared sacrifice in order to save our state from economic devastation due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The outcome of this bill only further exacerbates our education and health care funding problems.”
